Why is sleep so essential for the human body?
Getting a sufficient amount of sleep is extremely important for the proper functioning of the organs. With that, it helps a person maintain good well-being and health. As a result of this, sleep is just as important as exercise. However, some issues such as insomnia often ruin one’s sleep and require the attention of insomnia doctors.
Unfortunately, in the United States, due to the hustle and bustle of everyday life, people often do not appreciate a good amount of sleep. Whether one agrees with it or not, getting the right amount of sleep is extremely important for the proper functioning of the body.
Why is proper sleep so essential?
In this article, we are putting together certain benefits of sleeping well on time. This way, you will be able to maximize your productivity levels also. These include:
Improves concentration and productivity
According to a large number of studies, sleep has a direct link with a number of brain functions. These include concentration, cognition, and productivity.
With that, it has been observed that the sleep pattern of children also has a direct impact on their academic performance and behavior. Children who sleep on time and continue to follow a good routine tend to do better academically in comparison to those who do not sleep well.
Lower risk of weight gain
There is an established link between poor-quality sleep and weight gain. According to studies, poor quality sleep has a direct link with obesity. However, some journals say that sleep deprivation and being overweight do not have any links.
There are many arguments regarding this. For instance, some people say that such researches do not take into account the other factors. For instance, people who do not sleep on time are more prone to abusing alcohol and doing lesser physical activities. With that, they may also eat more in the day which will indirectly result in weight gain.
So, sleep may not directly have a link with weight gain. However, it can certainly lead to a lifestyle that makes it likely for a person to become obese if they have the tendency to.
Better regulation of calories
Just like gaining weight, there is limited evidence that suggests that sleep affects the regulation of calories. However, when people sleep on time, they tend to feel less hungry and hence, consume fewer calories.
At the same time, when people do not sleep properly, it can interfere with the ability f the body to regulate food properly.
Better athletic performance
Athletes specifically need to have a proper night’s sleep in order to prevent lethargy and fatigue during the day. Based on most researches, adults need anywhere between 7 to 9 hours every night. Furthermore, athletes may find as much as 10 hours of proper sleep beneficial.
This is because the body heals itself mostly during sleep. This results in better performance, higher energy, higher coordination, faster speed, and mental functioning.
Lower risks of heart issues
One of the major factors that lead to heart disease is higher blood pressure. Getting proper rest at night allows the body to keep blood pressure under normal levels.
However, when people do not sleep properly, the blood pressure can spike during the days which will contribute to heart issues later on.
Conclusion
Sleep is extremely important for the body to be able to function properly. Without proper sleep, the body finds it incredibly hard to do normal body functions.
With that, if you seem to be having trouble sleeping properly or on time, then you may need the help of an insomnia doctor right away!
