If you have a refrigerator, you need to take good care of it for you to avoid hiring refrigerator repair professionals every now and then. The most common refrigerator problems are:
- Noisy fridge
- Refrigerator leaking
- Failure of the fridge to start
- Fridge getting too warm
- Failure of the ice maker to make ice
- Door sweating
- Failure of the fridge to dispense water
- Fridge getting too cold
- Fridge running too long
- Failure of the light to work
Do you want to prevent these problems from coming about? Do the following:
Buy a stainless steel refrigerator
You might have the impression that any refrigerator is good to go with, but this isn’t the case. When making the purchase, avoid machines made from plastic. The best material to go for is stainless steel. While a stainless steel refrigerator will be expensive to buy at the start, it will save you a lot of money in the long run as it won’t be developing a lot of problems.
A stainless steel refrigerator is also tough and durable. As a result, you won’t be heading to the stores to buy a new one after a few days or months. Experts also report that a stainless steel refrigerator is easy to maintain.
When buying the machine, ensure that you go for one that is of the right size. This will be informed by the products you want to put in the unit. If running a restaurant, the size will be determined by the size of your restaurant.
Place it in the right location
While the fridge might appear tough, it’s very delicate thus it can’t handle a lot of movements. For you to avoid having to move it every now and then, you should place it in the right location. When choosing the location, pay attention to the power source. Remember that most refrigerators will require raw electric power and industrial switch.
You should place the refrigerator in an area that is free of obstructions. The location you place it should allow you to easily access the fridge so that you can remove and put your food without any problems.
Take good care of the door gaskets
Dirty or bad door gaskets on the refrigerator and freezer allow chilled air to pass through. This forces the appliance to work harder than it should. This not only results in the fridge consuming a lot of energy, it also greatly reduces the lifespan of the refrigerator.
At least once a month, clean the gaskets to remove any residues that might prevent a tight seal between the door and refrigerator. You can use plain water or mix the water with a few drops of liquid dish soap. You should avoid alcohol-based cleaning products as they can dry out the gaskets causing cracking.
When cleaning, inspect the gaskets. Are they hard to the touch? If they are, consider replacing them.
Clean the coils
Did you know your refrigerator has coils at the back? Since they are exposed, they tend to take up a lot of dirt which can prevent the fridge from running as effectively as it should. Dirty coils make the fridge run harder than it should thus consuming a lot of energy. A dirty fridge also tends to break down regularly.
You should clean off the dirt, dust, and cobwebs that might have accumulated at the back of the fridge. The cool thing is that it’s easy to clean the area. All you need is a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment. Lightly stroke the coils and you will get rid of the debris.
Avoid using a lot of pressure cleaning the coils as you can easily puncture the refrigerant lines. You can also pull the wires loose.
Set the temperature properly
The temperature you set the refrigerator is of great importance. If you set it too low, the refrigerator will work too hard to cool the food. At the same time, when you set it too high, you will have a high energy bill as the unit will be consuming a lot of energy. It also won’t cool the food as much as you want it to.
You should set your fridge at 40 degrees Fahrenheit. If you aren’t sure of how to go about it, ask an appliance repair Fairfax professional to help you out.
